Interactive Measurement Guide

We have an interactive measuring tool created which takes you step by step through various measuring points to measure both the wheelchair and the vehicle.

At the end, you will receive an evaluation of whether your wheelchair is compatible with the desired vehicle and whether any restrictions should be expected.

Such measurements can sometimes take a little longer. That is why your entries are saved in your browser. So you can pick up where you left off at any time.

Saved measurement result found and saved! Just click on "continue" to go through the measurement tool again step by step with the existing values. If this is not desired: Delete values .

Wheelchair height in cm

Measuring the height of the wheelchair:

Place the wheelchair on a flat and level surface, now measure vertically from the floor to the top edge of the push handles (highest point).

Wheelchair length with footrests in cm

Measuring the wheelchair length with footrests

Place the wheelchair on a flat, level surface and push it backwards against a vertical surface (e.g. door or wall) until the push handles or the wheels are in contact with the surface, now measure horizontally from the wall to the foremost edge (e.g. footrest) towards the front.

Wheelchair length without footrests in cm

Measuring the wheelchair length without footrests

Place the wheelchair on a flat, level surface and push it backwards against a vertical surface (e.g. door or wall) until the push handles or wheels are in contact with the surface. Now measure horizontally from the wall to the foremost edge (e.g. footrest) towards the front. Does your wheelchair not have removable footrests? Then enter the length measurement with footrests again here

Wheelchair width (unfolded) in cm

Measuring the width of the wheelchair (unfolded)

When measuring the width, the camber of the wheels must be taken into account. Measure at the widest point from the outer edge of the handrim to the outer edge of the handrim.

Wheelchair folding dimension in cm

Measuring the width of the wheelchair (folded)

Fold the wheelchair so far that a distance of 21 cm remains between the inner sides of the wheels. Now measure from the outer edge of the handrim to the outer edge of the handrim at the widest point. Your wheelchair is not foldable? Then enter the measurement of the unfolded wheelchair width here again.

Wheelchair scantling

Measuring the scantling:

Place the wheelchair on a flat, level surface and tilt the backrest backwards until the handles form a horizontal line with the folding cross, the frame arch or the footrests. Now measure vertically from the highest point to the floor.

Wheelchair rear clearance frame

Rear Clearance Frame

Measure horizontally at the height of the wheel axle between the wheels from the rearmost point of the wheelchair wheel to the wheelchair frame.

Wheelchair rear free dimension attachments

Rear free dimension attachments:

Measure horizontally at the height of the wheel axle between the wheels from the rearmost point of the wheelchair wheel to the attachments. (e.g. backrest braces, anti-tippers, walking aid holder, tipping aid, etc.).

Vehicle clear interior height

Measure the inside clear height:

Measure vertically upward from the left front corner of the seat bank base (without seat cushion) to the headliner. (The measuring point at the left front corner is 30 cm inside measured from the door rubber).

If it is not possible to measure without the seat cushion, measure upward from the cushion at the same point and add the thickness of the seat cushion.

For raised center section of seat bench base:

Measure vertically upward from the highest elevation of the seat bench base (without seat cushion) to the headliner.

Vehicle interior width

Measure the clear interior width:

Measure horizontally the distance between the upper edges of the left and right inner door panels. (The calculation program takes into account a space requirement for the drive of the swing door).

Vehicle cargo hold opening height

Measure the clear opening of the load compartment:

Place a spirit level on the front left corner of the seat bench base (without seat cushion) and set it up so that you can measure vertically upwards to the lower edge of the door seal. Take into account that on some vehicles the door opening slopes backwards, minimizing the loading opening. (The measuring point at the left front corner is 30 cm inside measured from the door rubber).

If it is not possible to measure without the seat cushion, measure at the same point from the cushion upwards and add the thickness of the seat cushion.

Vehicle door opening width swing door/sliding door

Measure the clear door opening width:

This dimension can only be precisely determined after retrofitting with a swing door (or in the case of a vehicle with a standard sliding door). If necessary, comparative measurements with similar vehicles can be consulted or information obtained from an installation partner! (However, a door opening width of approx. 36 cm can be assumed as a non-binding guide value).

Measure the distance at the narrowest point from the door seal at the rear edge of the B-pillar horizontally to the front edge of the open swing door (or standard sliding door). Take into account that the cargo area opening usually has a Rombus shape that slopes backwards. This may restrict the load opening dimension.

Vehicle loading sill height

Measure the height of the loading sill:

Place a spirit level on the front left corner of the bench base (without seat cushion) and set it up so that you can measure vertically down to the floor. (The support point of the spirit level on the front left corner is 30 cm inside measured from the door rubber). If it is not possible to measure without the seat cushion, measure downwards from the cushion at the same point and subtract the thickness of the seat cushion.

Results

Single seat usable on the right?
Yes Conditional due to wheelchair length, contact an installation partner

Loading possible without footrests?
Loading is possible Conditional due to wheelchair length, check loading possibility for wheelchair tilt

For wheelchair tilt
Loading possible Scantling critical because of built-in parts, contact an installation partner

Unfolded loading possible?
The wheelchair can be loaded unfolded At this width, vehicles with sliding side doors are more suitable for unfolded loading

Folded loading possible?
The wheelchair can be loaded folded Wheelchair width critical, contact an installation partner

Is the interior height sufficient?
The interior height is sufficient Critical interior height, contact an installation partner

Is the loading sill height suitable?
Loading sill height suitable Critical loading edge height, contact an installation partner

Suitable wheelchairs:

  • Almost all active wheelchairs, rigid frame or foldable up to max. 38Kg.

Advantageous:

  • Wheelchairs without rear attachments in the wheel axle area and wheelchairs with little or no frame run under and behind the wheel axle.
  • For wheelchairs with E-Fix drive, the Alber sway brackets do not have to be removed if the wheelchair is loaded unfolded and the loading opening is sufficient.

Limitations:

  • Active wheelchairs with rigid anti-tippers that cannot be swiveled forward.
  • Active wheelchairs with residual power amplifiers or electr. auxiliary drives e.g. e-Motion or E-fix must have anti-tippers removed or folded forward when loaded folded.
  • Wheelchairs with separate battery e.g. e-fix (except hub battery) the battery must be split or mounted behind the axle.
  • Pushing or pulling aids e.g. Smoov, ePilot or similar must be removed for loading.

Wheelchairs with possible restrictions:

  • Wheelchairs with a tare weight of more than 38 kg.
  • Wheelchairs with horizontal folding mechanism or with rear attachments that stick out far and cannot be removed. e.g. Invacare Myon -> only possible on vehicles with factory sliding door and sufficient loading opening height. KĂĽschall Champion -> folding mechanism must be modified so that it bends forward.

Notes on the choice of vehicle:

  • On vehicles with a (folding) seat frame under the rear seat cushion area, the optional use of the loading system and the bench seat is not possible as standard. This requires further adaptation of the seat design by the conversion partner.
  • Vehicles with sunroof / panorama roof usually have a reduced interior height. The interior height dimensions without sunroof / panoramic roof are specified as standard for the selectable vehicle models.
